Never heard of Faraday Future? You are about to. Backed by a Chinese Billionaire this Silicon Valley (where else) startup has just launched its first creation. The Faraday Future FF 91. Revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas it boasts some promising stats.
1,050bhp and 0 – 60 in 2.39s. That time would take the #2 spot away from the phenomenal LaFerrari in our TOP TEN fastest accelerating production cars ever. That comes courtesy of an all-wheel drive setup and motors developing a combined 783kW of power, equivalent to 1035bhp. The batteries, at 130kWh of capacity (30kWh more than the range-topping Tesla) supply enough juice for an estimated 378 miles.
The big question – will it make production? Electric car startups have a habit of failing, not many however have a Billionaire backer. Word is they are burning through the cash though. The electric car game is not cheap. So far only Tesla seem to of got it right but do not forget Elon Musk got a fair few billion from the American government in grants to fund his venture.
Still Faraday Future is already taking refundable $5000 deposits for the car, which is scheduled to enter production in 2018. With looks like this, we don’t think Tesla have much to worry about.
